Honghu Lotus Root is a nationally recognized geographical indication product.

It is a unique variety among Hubei lotus roots, with a cultivation history spanning over 2300 years. Historically, Honghu was part of the Yunmeng Zedong region in the Yangtze River floodplain, characterized by low-lying terrain. Through geological evolution, the area accumulated a rich layer of organic matter and nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium due to the deposition of aquatic flora and fauna. Over centuries, this sedimentation developed fertile mud soils suitable for lotus root growth.

 

Honghu Lotus Root is abundant in trace elements such as iron and calcium. It is rich in plant proteins, vitamins, and starch, offering notable benefits such as nourishing blood, enhancing immune function, and containing various vitamins. Mature lotus roots from Honghu have a protein content of ≥0.93%, soluble sugar content of ≥0.75%, starch content of ≥6.45%, and moisture content of ≤92%.

 

Characterized by a long and plump shape, high starch content, and delightful features like fragrance, crispiness, freshness, and mildness, Honghu Lotus Root is versatile. It easily disintegrates when boiled, has a thick and succulent texture when stir-fried, turns powdery when simmered, and can be consumed fresh, processed, or even used medicinally. It is known for its efficacy in clearing the lungs, promoting qi circulation, stopping bleeding, and promoting lactation.
